The Charity Work

Lakes Legal Limited is a profit-making organisation but we also like to do our bit for charity. The company operates under the Jim Rohn 70:10:10:10 principle. Which means that every year 10% of Lakes Legal Limited’s profits are paid to charity. That’s right; 10 pence from every pound the company makes goes directly to helping others.

Lakes Legal Limited was established in the South Lakes area of Cumbria and so the director has chosen to dedicate this years 10% to two charities local to the company’s home town. The first is St Mary’s Hospice Ulverston and the second Animal Welfare Furness. We have provided some information about these charities below for your interest.

St Mary’s is an independent, charitable, voluntary body funded mainly by the generosity of the community for the community. Founded in 1989 by public subscription, the hospice provides specialised medical and nursing care to people from South Cumbria suffering from serious progressive illnesses. St Mary’s Hospice is the dedicated provider in South Cumbria of comprehensive specialised supportive and palliative care for people with life limiting conditions.

St Mary’s facilities and services are available to all adults who are facing the end of life, and to their families, carers and the bereaved. Patients with life limiting illnesses are cared for at the Hospice, as in-patients or by attendance at day clinics or therapy sessions, and – increasingly – at home. St Mary’s care for patients facing the end of life, regardless of diagnosis, and for those who love them. Patients and carers may access their holistic programs, addressing physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs, at any stage of an illness.

At St Mary’s, care is provided free of charge, but it is not cost-free. To maintain their services costs around £2.4 million a year, of which St Mary’s have to raise £2 million (£6000 per day) from supporters.

Animal Welfare Furness, is a local charity run by local people that helps all animals in the Barrow and Ulverston Area. Each year, hundreds of cats, dogs and other animals in the Furness area end up homeless. It is left to a few hard-working animal lovers to find them a new home.

No matter how many cats and dogs Animal Welfare finds homes for each year, there are always more waiting for their help and no matter how many they take in, if they are healthy, they are never put to sleep.

Animal Welfare says, there are heart-breaking times when there is “no room in the inn” and they have to turn animals away.
